$a INVESTIGATION OF CRIME AND CRIMINALS. The legally regulated process of search for the truth about a criminal offence, ultimate objective of which is identification of the criminals responsible for may be roughly termed as Criminal Investigation . Investigation is a unique type of professional activity which requires specific skill, human instinct and intellectual analytical power. This is a logical, legal and objective enquiry for identifying criminals for serving the ends of justice. Identification of the offender apprehending the offender quickly as required by legal provisions for trial of the case by the court of law gathering and preserving evidence to establish the guiltaiding prosecution and conviction of criminals and recovering stolen property are the main objective of crime detection.In the present age when time and space are loosing conventional meaning, science and technology has changed the entire scenario of every day social life, crime detection has become more rigid and complex. As such it requires modern technique and scientific equipments.In the present volumes, I have tried to bring together relevant information or diverse aspects of criminal investigation. Efforts are made to cover latest research and developments in the field. As the trends in criminal activities and offences are changing, especially in the age of electronics and computers, we have incorporated relevant information on these aspects also.In the process of compiling latest and authentic information, I have taken help from the works of many learned authors/experts in the field.
