Researchers must dig out background material. Executives take time from their busy schedulei to endure interviews. Staff assistants review drafts and correct errors. Most important of all, time and funds must be found to complete the project. The prime mover behind the writing of these cases was Gunawan Adisaputro, former the founding Director of the Magister Manajemen Program at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. Throughout many trials and tribulations, he was able to maneuver through seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Joanne and I owe a deep debt of gratitude to Gunawan and his wife Noor for their gracious kindnesi, patience, and unwavering support. Without Gunawan, these cases would not have been written. Also crucial was the assistance of my other colleagues at Gadjah Mada. Bambang Sudibyo, the new Director of the Magister Manajemen Program, provided liaison with the Accountancy Development Project in Jakarta and arranged for the publication of this casebook. Marwan Asri remained calm and kept lis good humor even in moments of crisis. He answered innumerable questionsibout Indonesian terms and phrases. Dumairy also fielded his share of inquiries about strange phrases found in newspapers and magazines. Harsono, Eduardus Tandelilin, and T. Hani Handoko tested six of the cases in the strategic management classes and provided valuable feedback. Zaki Baridwan, joined by Bisu Swastha Dharmmesta and T. Hani Handoko, reviewed the cases in detail and made several helpful suggestions for the final drafts. Administrative support was superb. Rujito kept the funds flowing somehow. Sri Sulistyowati handled a myriad details about faxes, letters, telephone calls, hotel reservations, and transportation arrangements. Choiru Zaid, a bona fide computer expert, not only loaned me his office computer, he kept the copies flowing and met all deadlines. a658.04 4aStrategi Management a016522 a016523 a016524 a016525 a016526
